About the Course
Theater: Playwriting & Performance

Playwriting and Performance is a theater class that teaches the following:

-Story development

-Writing a script

-Projection and voice control

-Characterization and movement

-Bringing a script to life

-Working as a team

In the fall students participate in a shorter performance. In the spring a longer play/musical is performed. Auditions are held for the spring show. Students will help write one or both of the performances, and will have input regarding the play/musical that is chosen.

This class counts as an elective in the Indiana Core 40 Indiana requirements. There is no textbook required for the class but each student will need to print their own script and purchase/find clothes for their character for each performance.

Payments and the deposit for the class can be paid via check, cash, or venmo. My Venmo is Diane Cullen@Diane-Cullen-14

About Diane
Diane

I enjoy teaching subjects that enable students to develop skills that will help them in life and also subjects that help them see God's work in the lives of people throughout time, as well as their own life. I have taught at Cornerstone since 2013. Before that I taught my own children (five of them) and also taught at IUS (for 15 years). I served as a coach for Truth Advocates Speech and Debate Club for nine years teaching students the skills of speaking and debating for competition. In that role I also worked with teams to plan and run tournaments. I attended Taylor University and earned a BA in communications and business.

In my free time I enjoy participating in and leading Bible studies, writing, exploring, traveling, hiking, kayaking, and spending time with friends and family.

About Christina
Christina

Christina is excited for the opportunity to continue teaching at Cornerstone Classical School! She graduated from Liberty University with a Bachelor's Degree in English and Writing: Christian Literature and from Boyce College with an Associate Degree in Biblical and Theological Studies. She has taught a variety of classes at Cornerstone for the last eight years. She attended Weber School of Dance in Jeffersonville for eight years where she studied ballet, tap, jazz, musical theatre, and lyrical dance. At Weber, she also served as an assistant instructor. Besides her love for dance, she also has a passion for creative writing, having studied as a student in high school and further in college. In the spring of 2021, she was blessed to win the Home For His Glory Young Authors Contest.

In her free time, Christina enjoys wandering the outdoors (as long as there are no snakes:), reading good books, doodling characters, writing stories and songs, and choreographing dances.

Christina is looking forward to showing others how to glorify God and share his love through literature and the arts!
