About the Course
Great Books II: British Literature

In Great Books II: British Literature, students will read literature written by British authors and analyze it from a Biblical Worldview in order to better understand the impact and importance of literature in their own lives and in the culture. This class seeks to bring stories to life, give students a fresh view on the beauty of storytelling, and examine how authors communicate through their works. The class satisfies 2 credits for the Indiana High School English requirement.

Throughout the year, students will review and learn a variety of skills such as:

- principles of literary analysis,

- identification of an author's worldview,

- effective essay writing,

- how to participate in meaningful discussion,

- and practicing timed writing assignments.

By the end of the course, students will have read books, plays, or short stories by authors like C.S. Lewis, John Bunyan, George MacDonald, J.R.R. Tolkien, Charles Dickens, Charlotte Bronte, William Shakespeare, Arthur Conan Doyle, Jane Austen, Robert Louis Stevenson, and Mary Shelly.

Stay tuned for specific works and any potential textbook requirements.

Great Books II: British Literature is a part of a two-year rotation. It is open to students 10th-12th grade, is an hour and a half a week, and costs $400 for the entire year.
