About the Course

Hi!
My name is Debbie Griffin. I graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in music education focusing on choral and piano pedagogy. I've taught piano for many years. I also accompany whenever I have the opportunity and play the piano at church.
The lesson schedule follows the upper school calendar for a total of 34 lesson weeks.
Cost is $22.50 per lesson, with a discount given for multiple students from the same family.
At Cornerstone, we have two optional recitals per year. The first is typically the last day of Cornerstone elementary classes in November and the 2nd is the week after Cornerstone elementary ends in April.
In piano, I use the Faber Piano Adventures series for the first 5-6 levels, followed by the Festival Collection for advanced students. Students will study piano repertoire, technique, theory, and eventually play worship music using chord charts.
Voice students study a mix of beginner classical/folk songs with some student song selections. There is an emphasis on good vocal tone, breathing/phrasing, pitch, musicality, and solfege sight-reading.
Practice is key to progressing on any instrument! 20-30 minutes, 5 days a week is suggested. For younger students, parental oversight is often needed.
Please contact me to see if there is an available slot and to set up a time. Priority will be given to present students and past waiting list students. If I do not have an open time slot, there is another piano teacher at Cornerstone as well.
Let me know if you have any questions!

About Debbie

Hi! I'm Debbie Griffin and I love all things music! I graduated from the University of Illinois with a B.S. in K-12 Music Education with a focus on general music, choral music, and piano pedagogy. I also did post-graduate studies at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, where I met my husband Rick, who is a pastor. I've taught music in various capacities over the years, including piano, voice, general music and choirs in public and private schools, and I've directed both school and church productions. I really enjoy accompanying and assisting with worship. I'm a 25-year veteran homeschool mom of five children, all of whom have graduated, so I cheer on all of you homeschool moms!
