Expectations and Homework
Homework will be assigned to practice what was taught in class. In pre-algebra we will cover an average of 2-3 new concepts a week. Students can expect to spent about 4-5 hours a week outside of class working on homework and studying.

About the Course
Pre-Algebra

This pre-algebra course is designed to help your student be fully prepared for algebra.  It is not a requirement for Algebra 1, if your student is fluent in the skills taught in this course.  This will be a 60 min year long class that follows the upper school calendar.

  • Exponents, Zero Exponents, Negative Exponents*
  • Perfect Sqares, Perfect Cubes*
  • Suares Roots & Cube Roots*
  • Scientific Notation*
  • Comparing & Ordering Number Forms*
  • Order of Opperations*
  • Evaluating Expressions*
  • Properties of Real Numbers*
  • Translating Expressions*
  • Combining Like Terms*
  • Distributive Property*
  • Multiply & Divide with Scientific Notation 
  • Adding & Subtracting with Scientific Notation
  • One Step Equations
  • Geometry Unit
  • Measurement Unit (Area & Voume)
  • Probability & Statistics
Class will consist of hands on and practice. We will focus on the conceptual understanding of these concepts and how they relate to future concepts.  Homework will be assigned for students to practice concepts we did in class.  
 
A Google Classroom will be utilized in this class.  Textbook/copies will be printed and provided for each student.

My name is Mrs. Smith and I teach Algebra 1 & Geometry. I was born in Stockton, CA but raised in Phoenix, AZ. I graduated from Southwestern Christian School with a BS in Elementary Education, a Minor in Bible, and a Minor is teaching ELL students. I also have a MA in Educational Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction, and certificates in Math Education. I have worked with all ages, from young child to adults in many different settings. I have worked in education for over 20 years. First as a teacher and then in administration and educational leadership. My husband and I homeschool our amazing 8 kids! Our youngest has been used as a testimony in ways we never dreamed possible!
